Fall wedding at High Line Car House

Tonight I get to feature Jenn and DWs gorgeous wedding from last year at High Line Car House! I have been so excited to show this one off because from start to finish, this day was just magical. This is also the first time in 12 years that I’ve had a pet stand at the front with the couple as they got married. Cooper was very respectful and didn’t steal the show too much!!

DW and Jenn did a first look at Schiller Park in German Village. It was so much fun to see DW’s reaction as they both turned around. He was overcome with emotion and photographers just live for those moments! From there we casually walked around the park, talking and laughing with the whole bridal party. Jenn’s cathedral length veil was just everything. Long veils make the whole bridal look so elegant and romantic. One of my favorite photos we got was the picture of their basset hound Cooper standing in front of the bridal party. He even had his own little tuxedo!

We all headed back to High Line to watch these two tie the knot! It was so intimate, loving, and warm in that room. From there we all moved to the main space of High Line and got the party started. Tables were accented with flowers from Jewelwedding Floral Studio, candles, and the most beautiful glass pumpkins. Kitties Cakes supplied the most incredible desserts as well! After their first dance, we snuck out to do a few night photos in front of the Columbus Love sign downtown. To finish off the night, guests were treated to The Whirlybirds live band. This day had the best energy from start to finish. So much love to you both DW and Jenn. You’ll never know how lucky I feel that you walked into my life! XO J

Cheers and Lakeside Chalet Wedding

Cue the airhorn sound effect! This is my last summer wedding from last year I haven’t blogged about yet. I’m getting ready to switch gears here on the blog for the entire month of September. When weddings are back on the blog in October, you’ll get to see all of the autumnal goodness from last year as well as some more intimate weddings I’ve done this year!

Jackie and Terry had a beach themed wedding last summer at the Cheers and Lakeside Chalet. This was such a cool venue that I had never shot at before. The way the ceremony location is decorated definitely lends itself to feeling like you’re underwater. All the little beach themed details were so much fun, too. My favorite was this incredible handmade starfish headpiece that adorned Jackie’s up-do. I also loved how the cake had brown sugar sand with their initials spelled out. And Jackie’s engagement ring even had a little shell open shells on it.

What I remember most from this wedding is how emotional it was and how absolutely head-over-heels crazy in love these two are. Both of them cried to each other while reading their vows. It created such beautiful electricity in the air. Like everything in the world was paused just for them at that moment.

Their portrait session was so much fun. Even though it was raining, we were able to get some gorgeous photos right in their reception space. And most importantly, they were all having so much fun. I could tell that this was going to be one hell of a reception, and I was right! There was so much laughter, good food, and heartfelt speeches.

Jackie and Terry had told me there was going to be Karaoke at their wedding, but as a bystander, you never know if that’s going to be a good or a bad idea lol. OMG, they were incredible! How did I get through their entire engagement shoot without learning about their secret super singing powers? It was such a treat to be in a room with so much talent.

Since their wedding, Jackie and Terry have welcomed a little baby into their world, which almost makes this day even more fun to look back on. Thank you Jackie and Terry for letting me be there for your perfect day! XO J

A Jessing Center Wedding

Jane and Chirs were married in early August last year at Saint Andrew Catholic Church and had their reception at the Jessing Center at the Josephinum. I had never met them before their wedding, but instantly, they felt like old friends. They both have a calming and genuine presence. We met up for their first look in a park down the block from the church. It was a sunny day and a slight breeze was in the air. Jane’s David’s Bridal dress was so beautiful and she paired it with a simple strand of pearls. The back of the dress was a masterpiece! Lace and button details created a heart shape. Chris was dressed in a grey 3-piece suit from the Men’s Warehouse. As we shot, they just talked, held each other, and giggled. They are truly so sweet together. We decided to do some more photos at St. Andrew’s and I’m so glad we did. The interiors of this church are magnificent. They are just perfect for an epic silhouette!

The entire bridal party met up outside for some more relaxed and fun photos before the ceremony started. Right after the ceremony, we took some photos with Mary, their adorable infant daughter. I just kept thinking about how sweet of an experience it must be to hold your own child on your wedding day. I wasn’t even postpartum, but it gave me all the feels from behind the camera.

From the church, we went over to the Jessing Center at the Josephinum. I had never had the privilege of shooting on their grounds before, but this place is just magical. The campus buildings made for a backdrop reminiscent of European cathedrals. Inside, the ballroom was large but it retained a feeling of intimacy. Bloomtastic florals that accented the room and an enchanting cake by Jennifer Hemphill were standout details. This group did not disappoint on the dancefloor and everything about the entire day was so authentic and joyous. Thank you so much, Jane and Chris. Columbus OH High Line Car House Wedding

Tanner and Justin are two of the most sincere and fun people you’ll ever meet. To know them is to love them! You might remember their engagement shoot I posted last year. That is still such a vivid day in my memory. The whole time it was just about to rain and there was this gorgeous haze in the air.

Fast forward to their wedding last year, it was quite literally the perfect day. The wedding started with the girls getting ready at Trinity United Methodist Church. This was the first time I had ever shot in this church and it quickly became one of my favorites. In the main entrance, there’s a glass dome ceiling. As the light poured through, it made the most spectacular starburst light pattern across the room. I knew we had to take advantage of that for a photo of Tanner! Her bridesmaids wore navy blue and everyone carried bouquets of white and green. Everything looked so romantic and sophisticated.

As Tanner and her father turned the corner to walk down the aisle toward Justin, they were both backlit and Tanner was literally glowing. I had never seen a more radiant bride! Justin wiped away tears as he saw his bride walk toward him. It was the perfect moment.

After the ceremony, the two celebrated as they walked into the hallway with cheers towards our cameras and the cutest “just-married” kisses! I couldn’t get enough of it! From there we traveled to Schiller Park where the was a slight breeze in the air and a duck who wanted to compete with the happy couple for photo time. From the park, we drove to High Line Car House which has the most photogenic back alley. It was a nice last few minutes they could spend together before the party started. And what a party it was! Just pure joy all night long. I feel so thankful to have been there to see it all! I hope you love these as much as I loved taking them! XO Jess

Wolf’s Ridge Wedding Photos

Let me just start this by saying if I were to re-do my wedding again, I would design it to be exactly like this. With an overarching astrological theme, this wedding was just so visually captivating. What a better place to get ready than the Downtown Columbus Lincoln LeVeque Tower hotel, which also has an astrological theme. LeeAnne’s dress was contemporary with smooth lines and a low-cut back. Her hair was styled to perfection by Jessica Broadwater and her makeup was flawlessly done by Kerry Smith from Full Face Artistry. LeeAnne chose chandelier earrings that resembled the north star. Andrew wore a blue tux with black tailored accents. Everything was perfectly styled. I felt like I was at a styled wedding.

Their ceremony was outdoors at COSI on the riverfront. Funny enough, there was a soul festival happening at the same time. LeeAnne got to walk down the aisle to both a string quartet and Al Greene. They had such an amazing sense of humor about it. As she walked, her long veil offered the perfect soft accent to the clean lines of her dress. As they said their vows to one another, tears welled up in their eyes. It was such a sincere moment that was so special to watch. After they were declared husband and wife, we went and took some wedding photos around downtown Columbus.

At their reception venue, Wolf’s Ridge Brewing, guests were being dropped off by trolly and enjoyed the most beautiful (and delicious) charcuterie boards. A white cake from Cakes Creatively by Crystal sat in the corner and was adorned with a vintage bride and groom statuette. LeeAnne and Andrew honeymooned in Italy, and before they did, they wanted to share an Italian “cheers” with everyone at their wedding. As a favor, they gave each guest a bottle of Limoncello. A neon sign that said “The Smiths” provided such a fun backdrop for the night. And what a party it was! Dancing was going strong when we left well into the night. I can’t say enough amazing things about how many details were poured into this day. And hands down, it’s probably the best food I’ve ever had a wedding (one of the perks at having a reception at Wolf’s Ridge!). A huge thank you to LeeAnne and Andrew who are two incredible people. Scioto Reserve Country Club Wedding Photos

It has been so much fun blogging and reliving all of the amazing weddings from over the past year. I truly love what I do and feel so blessed to be able to peek into so many’s lives even if just for a little bit.

This wedding was last June and was beautiful for so many reasons. I met up with Danielle as she was getting ready in the Bridal Suite at the Scioto Reserve Country Club. They were steaming her cathedral length veil when I arrived. There are very few things I love more than a longer-than-life veil. As she got her dress on, you could see the excitement in her eyes. It was a sunny day with no clouds in the sky. The country club has this amazing little spot of trees right near the back of the club where I just love to do portraits. This is where we did the first look with Charles. The expression on his face was so cute as he turned around and saw how stunning Danielle looked. We then hopped on a golf cart and took some photos around the grounds. The sun softly illuminated them both as they walked.

It was then time to get married! They had an outdoor ceremony in the back of the club. As Charles read his vows to Danielle, a beam of light came through and highlighted only his eyes. For me, it was a poetic moment. I’m such a sucker for cool lighting.

Inside the reception room, soft violet and cream accents adorned every corner. When the dancing started, it didn’t stop. There was so much joy and love in the room that night. Thank you so much to Danielle and Charles for letting me be a small part of it all!

Tartan Fields Wedding Photos

SO, I REALLY missed their first anniversary, but this wedding needs to be seen by the world! It was so pretty and fun. I love Amber and Sean. They have the most amazing way of joking around with each other. I’ll never forget their first look. Sean was just talking to himself and making himself laugh. As Amber stood behind him waiting to tap him on his shoulder, Amber couldn’t stop laughing and was trying so hard to compose herself. They have a way of being so intimately funny.

After the first look, we hopped on some golf carts and explored the grounds at Tartan Fields and found some stunning little spots to take some dreamy photos. The bridesmaids’ sage green gowns looked perfect against the landscape. After photos, we all met up behind the Country Club because their ceremony was about to begin. This outdoor ceremony spot overlooked the perfectly manicured golf course and provided the perfect “wow” factor as they exchanged their vows.

After the ceremony, everyone was treated to a patio cocktail hour as the sun lowered in the sky. It was then time to party the night away. Their reception was detailed with white and sage green. Their cake was by Kelly’s Cakery and tasted delicious. I loved that both Sean and Amber individually stood and thanked their guests with very heartfelt speeches. Amber and Sean concluded dinner with their first dance where they were wrapped up tight in each other’s arms. After open dancing started, I saw some of the best dance moves from any of my 2019 weddings.

Amber and Sean, I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to have been there as you both said: “I do”. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you both! XO J

WatersEdge Wedding Photos

As we enter into the last few days of pride month, I am so excited to share this blog with you today from Carly and Alexxa’s wedding last September from WatersEdge Event and Conference Center in Hilliard, Ohio.

I met up with Carly and Alexxa at their hotel where they were getting ready in separate rooms. Their hair and makeup were being done by Always Elegant LLC when I arrived. It was so much fun to go back and forth from room to room and see all the little details that each of them had put together for the day. What was so striking, was how similar the cuts of their dresses were to each other. I don’t know if they planned it, but they were also wearing the same shirt to get ready in. There was nothing but ear-to-ear smiles in both rooms.

After they were both ready, we drove to WatersEdge to get the day started with a first look. Carly grabbed her Bloomtastic bouquet which was adorned with satin ribbons that gently blew in the breeze. It was just the perfect little detail that she planned to match the ribbon that was on the back of her dress. I was so excited as Alexxa approached because I knew this was going to be cute. But I can’t even explain in words how special it really was. They are truly soul mates. The way they interact is so genuine and sincere.

It was threatening rain all day. The clouds were rolling in, and the wind was picking up. But like so many other Ohio days, it didn’t rain and they were able to have the most beautiful outdoor ceremony. Signs, programs, invitations, and save-the-dates were all made and designed by Carly, who is also an extremely talented graphic designer. After they were married, we snuck out and took some more photos. If you can catch that moment when it’s about to rain and it doesn’t, the payoff can be huge. A slight wind, perfect overcast for photos, and the world can seem just a little more vibrant and saturated.

Now it was time to party! And I have to say, of all the hundreds of weddings I’ve been to, this wedding had the best speech hands down I’ve ever heard. Carly’s brother knocked it out of the park with his chart-enhanced story of him and Alexxa’s relationship over the years. The evening was perfectly rounded out with the most loving first dance with Carly and Alexxa, followed by some amazing dance moves from almost everyone at the wedding. D&M DJ Entertainment kept the dance floor alive all night. I think White Claw helped too lol. There was so much love in the room that night. The energy was electric and I feel so lucky to have been there to capture it all.

Franklin Park Palm House Wedding Photos

Ok, prepare yourself. This wedding is so special, so loving, and so uniquely Tyler and Thomas. These two decided to stray from the typical event formula and instead of having a rehearsal dinner, they had an intimate wedding the night before their big reception! To make it even more fun, we did their engagement shoot right before they said their vows. I’ve shot over 300 weddings and this is the first time I’ve ever done one like this. It had everything. The small intimate ceremony and the large no-holds-barred party. Just perfect if you ask me.

We started the weekend of festivities at Goodale Park where spring was vibrant with its saturated greens. This was the first time I had met either of them, but you would never know that. It felt like I was hanging out with old friends. Tyler is from Canada so he thanked me after every photo I took, which just gave me a natural high from days. These are two of the sweetest people you could ever meet. As we walked and took photos, we slowly made our way down High Street to Hubbard Grille, where their ceremony took place. Hubbard Grille has a second-floor event space that is just perfect for a smaller dinner or event like this. And if you go there, try the Brussel sprouts. I don’t even like Brussel sprouts and I think it’s quite possibly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

Thomas’ dad officiated the quick ceremony and before you knew it, Tyler and Thomas were married! Together with their family they ate a delicious meal and celebrated into the night with wine and laughter flowing.

The next day, my second shooter and I met Tyler and Thomas at the LeVeque Tower in Downtown Columbus for a quick portrait session before we went to the big event. A man in a tux is a special thing to see, but two men in tuxes just took my breath away. The LeVeque was the perfect backdrop for their wedding attire. That art deco vibe matched perfectly with their dapper and sophisticated look.

Off to the Franklin Park Conservatory, we went! It was so much fun just to walk around and take a few photos. Then, the rest of the night after family photos was pretty much just documentary photography. Throughout the night, they had live music, speeches galore, and even a swing band with a swing dance instructor. This weekend was pure magic and these photos are so much fun to look back on as they celebrate their one-year anniversary this week! A Spring Wedding In Columbus Ohio

Lindsay and Brian’s wedding was held in the early spring of last year. I remember everything about the whole day was so effortless and easy- the way you dream of your wedding going! Right off the bat, I was blown away with Lindsay’s style and the heartfelt details she incorporated. Let’s start with her Luxeredux dress. Holy smokes Batman. This dress was show-stopping. It had a grey sash and crystal details across the bodice. It photographed like a dream. Lindsay also had a little geometric ring holder she bought off Etsy that was so cute, delicate, and unique. Lindsay was styled to perfection with hair done by Hannah Godown and makeup was done by Joy Macke from State of Face Makeup. After she got dressed, Lindsay did a first look with her brother and dad. It was such a sweet, heartfelt moment.

We all congregated at the High Line Car House where Lindsay and Brian did a first look outside. First looks are actually becoming one of my favorite parts of the day. The anticipation and excitement are all condensed into that one special heartfelt moment. It’s a very emotional and fun moment to photograph.

From there the whole family and close friends stuffed into the van and we managed to find and take advantage of the very first blooming tree in downtown Columbus for some of their wedding photos! Outside of the Columbus Cultural Arts Center, there was the most beautiful blooming Dogwood. From there we hopped over to the High Street Bridge at the Scioto Mile. We finished our adventure outside of COSI for what are some of my favorite wedding photos from the day. Their outdoor patio has the most beautiful classical architecture that is so much fun to photograph a bride and groom with.

Now it was time to get married! But first, just a few more photos outside High Line Car House because the back of that building is a must-capture for any wedding day portrait. The surrounding areas are super perfect for romantic dancing in the street photos as well.

Inside, the most beautiful bouquets and altar backdrop were set up for the ceremony by the one and only Petals & Leaves Florist. The Chandeliers were dripping with greenery and accented with additional bistro lights. The whole night was one stunning blur of ear-to-ear smiles, heartfelt speeches, and killer dance moves to the Bluewater Kings Band.

Lindsay and Brian, I hope you both had the happiest of anniversaries! One year down! So much love to you both, XO Jess
