2013 Venue Spotlight- Grange Audubon Wedding Photography

Last year after the resounding success of my Venue Spotlight for Via Vecchia Winery, I decided to make it an annual tradition to offer a special deal on one Columbus venue I particularly love to shoot. I am so excited to announce that the Venue Spotlight for 2013 is the Grange Insurance Audubon Center! This is one of my all time favorite places to shoot in Columbus. It’s the most beautiful building and landscape. Here, at this park, nature meets modern in a fun, original and unique way. And seriously- it looks like it’s straight of a magazine.

This facility is built on reclaimed land on a peninsula that overlooks the Scioto River. This building is at one with nature, as all of its heating and cooling comes from alternative energy sources. And you might not know this, but there is a water-gathering garden on the top of the building. Here at the Audubon you will find expansive decks, both in and outdoor fireplaces, modern angles, bright colors, funky-cool window designs and a killer view of Columbus. Inside the building there are banners hanging from the ceiling that have distinctive birds printed on them. Each one represents a species of bird that has been spotted from the Audubon.  In both the morning and the evening, the light is magical as it spills out over the land.

There could not be a more perfect location for this years’ Venue Spotlight! I am offering any Audubon couple that books with me in 2013 their complete high-res disk of digital images as part of my base package price of $2,000! That’s right- you’ll get coverage, an engagement shoot and your disk of wedding images all for $2,000! (That’s a $700 value!) I’m still accepting a few more bookings for this year, so write me an email today! XO JessJessicaMillerPhotography-Columbus-Wedding-Photographers

Julie & Ryan- Franklin Park Wedding Photography

I did Julie and Ryan’s engagement shoot the night before their wedding, which is the first time I’ve done that before. In my opinion, it was one of the best ways you could ever spend the day before your wedding. Just being together, laughing, and knowing that the next day you’ll be walking down the isle. I was able to capture their last day as being “single” and their first day as being married. I guess you could say they were really beautiful ‘before & after’ photos. We were so lucky that both days were just magically perfect weather. Slight breeze, blue skies, white puffy clouds, colorful reflected light, saturated foliage colors….you know- perfect.

Julie and Ryan held their afternoon wedding in the outdoor Bride’s Garden at The Franklin Park Conservatory on a picture perfect fall day. She wore a stunning J.Crew dress that floated around her as she walked. If I ever looked that good in a dress, I don’t think I’d ever take it off! Soft pastel pinks and white flowers accented the isle-way and the bride’s bouquet. The great thing about weddings at the Conservatory, is that there is so much natural beauty all around, that not much, if anything, is needed to make a breathtaking setting for a wedding.

It was a small intimate celebration that had guests from around the world. Multiple languages were spoken at the reception, but everyone seemed to understand each-other. It’s amazing how much you can understand without knowing a language. I’ll be really cheesy here and suggest that Love is a universal language! Ok, yea- that really was cheesy (but true, right?).

Oh and another serious highlight of this wedding, like all weddings, was the fantastic cakes- or should I say cheesecake! YES! And multiple ones, too!

Sarah & Tim- Akron Wedding Photographers

Sarah and Tim are the geniuses behind the dry humored Purple Hippo Stitches, which can be found every year at the Craftin’ Outlaws craft show.  Their work is so fun and original. They are (now) a husband and wife team that creates framed cross stitched sayings that are, well- off the cuff & so awesomely snarky. The first time I photographed Craftin’ Outlaws, I admired their booth at least three or four times.

When they called me to let me know they’d like me to photograph their wedding, I was so excited and knew it was going to be GOOD! Put creative people, no matter what their medium, in charge of planning an event- it’s going to be genuine, memorable and unique. And this wedding didn’t disappoint.  Set at the Botzum Farm in Akron, Ohio, this fall wedding had the best of everything. A beautiful outdoor field, a rustic barn, creative details around every corner and an awesome family that knew how to party! Some of my favorite details were the bridesmaid dresses, the party noisemakers and the outdoor evening bonfire. There was a custom “rootbeer float” cocktail which was not kid safe for drinking;) The bride’s mother had custom bobble heads made of the couple that sat proudly on top of the cake, nodding in approval. Guests were invited to fill out MAD LIBS about the couple… I’m sure there were some great answers! And lets just put it this way-any wedding where the bride wears sparkly blue Toms is the kind of wedding I love to shoot! It was a dream shooting in the old barn. Character was oozing from every crevice of this place!

The rain held out until later in the evening, when everyone was under the canopy of the barn dancing their hearts out.

I hope you enjoy their sense of style as much as I do! XO Jess

Jess & Randy- Columbus Engagement Photography

It’s been such a great wrap up to our year here at JMP and I’m so exited to start posting again about all the amazing shoots we’ve done over the last couple of months. As it turns colder outside and the trees become bare, it’s so good to know that all the fantastic colors of fall have been captured in photos. Fall is one of my favorite times here in Columbus and Ohio. Fires in the fire pits, smores, sweatshirts, OSU football, fantastic colors and cool evenings wrapped under a blanket with the one you love. Ahhh, Fall. It’s simply perfection.

And this fall engagement shoot was no exception. Bright yellows and greens and savory crisp fall air was all around us.  Jess and Randy are getting married in early 2013 and for their engagement shoot, we spent the day together laughing, walking through the woods, and traveling to some of my favorite spots in Bexley. And yes! That included some Jenni’s ice cream. Let’s just say that any time I can work a little sweet treat into a shoot, I will. The vibrant fall colors provided the perfect backdrop for our multiple locations. They brought their doggie Teddy and I think you’ll see from these pictures that he’s a little heart-breaker. I’m obsessed with my dog, Rugby, so I was so excited to see the same kind of love and affection for their little one. These two are so cute together and Jess has the best sense of humor. I just adored how they would constantly poke fun at each other…that’s the sign of a really fun couple! I know from experience;) I also think that Teddy could go on to a really long, successful modeling career if he so desired! I can’t wait for their wedding next year but until then, enjoy! XO Jess

Andrew & Jessica- Ohio Engagement Photography

One question I hear a lot from couples is where are good Columbus shoot locations? I love encouraging couples to think about themselves when considering engagement shoot locations. What kinds of things do you like to do together? Is there anything that can give a little extra meaning to the photos that you can incorporate? From there, I like to plan a few locations that my couples can choose from based on the answers to those questions. For this session, Andrew used to live in Germany, so for the perfect location, we met on a damp but beautiful fall day and toured around German Village for their engagement session. The old brick roads, houses and character of the city is very romantic. They were both so relaxed and fun to shoot! I loved getting to know them better and I seriously can’t wait for their wedding next year! I find Jessica’s hair color and complexion so beautiful that I know she will be the most stunning bride. Enjoy, XO Jess

Julie & Ryan- Columbus Engagement Photography

Julie and Ryan met up with me and Scott the evening before their wedding for an engagement shoot this fall. As you can see, the weather was extraordinary. I just love it when that warm evening light and a soft breeze against the hair meet at the perfect time….it’s magical. The Grange Insurance Audubon Center is one of my favorite places in Columbus. I’ve been lucky to watch the landscape there develop over the last two years into something remarkable. Julie and Ryan were beyond cute with each other, and it was such a fun experience doing a shoot with them right before their big day- what a perfect way to spend the night before your wedding! (I’m a little biased though). I hope you enjoy these amazing colors, love and light! XO Jess

Kristin & Anthony- Columbus OH Wedding Photography

Kristin and Anthony are two of the most warm hearted people I’ve ever met. I met both of them earlier this year when Scott and I were lucky enough to shoot their engagement session at Jeffrey Mansion in Bexley. We both agreed after that shoot that we didn’t think Anthony or Kristin actually knew we were there. They were so in love and when together, had this magic chemistry…it took them to another place where they were the only two people in the entire world. And to watch them together is just electric. Needless to say, they made my job very easy. Everything about their wedding day was special and elegant- from Kristin’s hair, to her dress, to the stunning reception hall at the Hilton Easton. I hope you all enjoy these photos as much as I did taking them! XO Jess

The Vineyard Columbus Wedding

Katie & Eric- Natchitoches Wedding Photography

In late June, I landed at the Alexandria airport in Louisiana and in my bright green rental Ford Fiesta, I drove to one of the most beautiful little small towns I’ve ever been to- Natchitoches (where the movie Steel Magnolias was filmed). I pulled up to the Judge Porter House, where I’d be staying for the next two days. I lugged all my gear up to my room, opened my door, and it took my breath away. A gigantic four-post bed that took up most the room sat in front of me. Beautiful lace draped windows wrapped the room. A huge “getting ready” bathroom was also attached to my room. And that’s when I knew this weekend wasn’t going to be my average wedding. I was in the south…the beautiful, green, welcoming, charming and loving south. After I got a few deep fried things for lunch, I drove around scouting the area. The trees were in bloom and the weather was perfect. That evening I photographed Katie and Eric’s rehearsal dinner and was treated to a huge buffet of Louisiana delicacies. On the water, the small rehearsal dinner location offered stunning sunset views. Up early the next morning, I was lucky enough to take part in a fattening breakfast at the Judge Porter House…I mean there’s no other way to put it. And BOY was it good!! It consisted of cream wrapped with more cream. Then, a full day of beautiful heartwarming smiles, laughter, hugs, songs and love filled the hours. An old (and dark!) church was the perfect backdrop for the ceremony.  I really can’t describe how magical it all seemed- how they all welcomed me like family- and how just a very small, one-weekend adventure will stay with me the rest of my life. I hope you love these pictures as much as I loved taking them! XO Jess

Kyle & Tayah- Logan OH Wedding Photographers

The Georgian Manner in Hocking Hills was the perfect plantation-home backdrop for this romantic outdoor summer wedding. Ohio never ceases to amaze me with all of its beautiful, unique and inspiring wedding venues- and this was no exception. Kyle and Tayah both went to OU, so having the wedding in Hocking Hills close to their Alma Matter, was another added touch of the day. Navy blue and bright greens from their wedding party accented the natural surroundings beautifully. Colorful bird houses of all shapes and sizes decorated the dining tables. One of my favorite details of the day was all the groomsmen wore Fivefingerrs shoes! I hope you enjoy these photos- it only takes one look at them both to see how much they love each other! XO Jess
